Why don't I see any choices when I click on the Edit tab?

For some time I have been unable to see any choices on the Edit tab of
Tools->Options in Word97. I so rarely clicked on it, I always thought it was
a momentary problem, but now it's starting to bug me, because I *never* get
any choices. It's a big blank tab. I'm wondering if it's a symptom of a
larger problem.

I just tried reinstalling Office97, but that didn't help. I'm clueless as
to how to proceed to diagnose this problem.
