why file gets crashed when we delete a customized field?

We customize a task field Text17, and Values to display is set to some
graphical indicator instead of Data.

Now, each time, when we go to Tools -> Customize -> Fields to delete the
field, the file gets crashed; or if we click 'Graphical Indicators', the file
is crashed (closes and gives some error message and asks whether to restart
and send the report to MS)

it works fine with all other fields and other files.
looks the issue is only with this particular file.
Is there any clue of why this happens???

I think this may be the result of the view not being in synch with the
defined views, but at this point it is better to fix it rather than figure
out why.

Try saving the project off into another format (XML for example) then reopen
from that file to see if it fixes things.

Try switching to another view and deleting and recreating the table and view
which are giving problems.

What is the value in that field? Is it using a formula? What is the formula?
