Why get error opening WORD: "Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library"

When trying to open Microsoft WORD, I get an error msg saying that "Microsoft
Visual C++ Debug Library" Debug error- abnormal program termination" and the
program won't work ? This first starte out whe I opened Outlook, which uses
Word as its email editor !
