Why getting dup contact field data when import Excel to Outlook ?

A

akm

Trying to import Excel contact list into Outlook.

When get to OUtlook 'map custom fields' from Excel file range, the zip code
field shows up as a cell reference (F6) in the 1st contact, and for the
'next' contact (and all after that) it shows up as the state name.

So, both the state and the zip code fields show up with the state name
(except for the first contact, which shows up as a cell ref 'F6'), ie...

name
address
city
state
state (in 1st record shows up as cell ref 'f6', which is not in the 1st
contact row in Excel)
phone

When 'finish' all imports just fine, except all the state and zip code
fields both have the state name in them (except the 1st contact has the 'F6').

Ideas?

It sounds like the spreadsheet isn’t properly formatted - if its properly
set and up and filled out, the state and zips will be in their own column.
You need to fix the spreadsheet so the fields are corrrect.

Thanks for the reply.
Checked formating, all cells are same and Zip Codes are in one column just
like all other fields.

So its all laid out like this? http://slipstick.me/importlist

Saving it as CSV or tab delimited text file from Excel and viewing the file
in notepad might give you some clues. Actually - save it as CSV, look at the
data and verify the fields/columns look like they should be ok and try
importing the CSV.

If that doesn't work, would you mind sending the spreadsheet to diane at
slipstick dot com? Any content in the sheet will be NDA or you can use
Excel's Fill command to replace the data but if the problem is with corrupt
data, filling it will probably fix it.

Thank you for the followup !

1. Actually the 'slipstick' layout is a bit different... our layout has the
following columns.

first - last - address - city - state - zip - phone

Maybe we should try combining the name columns to 'first, last' and the
address columns to 'address, city, state, zip' (including comma delimiting) b4
we go through the CSV thing ?

2. 'NDA' ?

3. 'Fill' command ?

everything needs to be in separate fields.

NDA = non-disclosure. If you want me to look at the file, your data will
remain private and I won't keep or use the data.

excel allows you to fill columns with data.
