Why has the history disappeared from all my business contacts?

I'm starting to regret ever having gotten involved with Business Contact
Manager. Every so often (it may be tied to synchronizing with my Palm Treo
600, I don't know), the history "disappears." The newest twist on this
problem is that yesterday the "history" section of every business contact was
the entire contents of my email inbox! So I cleared the forms cache (which
worked for me last time), and now I have no history at all. Anyone else
ready to give up, or do you have a solution for me?
