Why I Cannot delete Journal folder from Outlook 2003 ?

N

niladri chatterjee

If I try to right click 'Delete' to remove Journal folder from 'Folder List',
the 'Delete' is disabled. How do I delete Journal folder. Similarly, I need
to remove 'Notes', 'Tasks' folder too. Because of large number og filfer
present, I cannot even see all my e-mail account's Inbox (without scrolling).

Use the little arrow on the bottom line to remove the folders in Outlook. It is on the bottom left corner and when you hover over it it say's configure buttons. You are not able to delete them but you can hide them

1. Lose the Caps. It is rude.
2. State your Outlook version.
3. It is only possible with Outlook 2003 and later.

Further to this question, in Outlook 2007 when you use the arrow (as Peter
Foldes) recommended, there is a two-step operation to remove the Journal item
completely from the view:

1. Click on the Arrow as Peter Suggested
2. Click on the "Show Fewer Buttons"
(This will remove the 'blue bars' and then put the items into small icons
beneath - in one blue bar)
3. Click on the Arrow again
4. Click on the Add/Remove Buttons, and "off-select" the Journal icon

HOWEVER... (and now finally my question)

The Journal icon is still visible in one place, (within the "All Folders"
display). Is it possible to hide this icon (and the others, such as RSS
Feeds & Tasks) from view.

To clarify, once you are on the Folder List View

- Under the Menu, in the first pane to the left (starting from the top)
- You will see "Folder List" in large dark blue writing
- Underneath, you will see "All Folders"
- Underneath you will see "All Outlook Items" (I think this is only when you
have Desktop Search, although it may always be there)
- Underneath, you have "Mailbox - XXXX" (where XXX is the name of your mailbox
- Underneath, you have your items, "Calendar, Contacts, Deleted Items.. etc"

It is at this level that I would like to hide the Journal and Tasks.

Is this possible???

No, Journal is a default folder and cannot be deleted.

I had the same problem...

I found that if you switch off the journal, calender etc using the "Ad
Remove Buttons" from the >> drop down menu at the bottom (but leave th
Mail button showing) then click on the Mail button at the bottom th
folder list will refresh setting it back to the default e.g. withou
Calendar, Journal etc.

Let me know how you get on...

Regards
D
