Why is 2007 so Damn Slow???

P

Paul

I recently upgraded from 2000 to 2007, and I notice a HUGE difference
in speed. 07 takes forever to load, but so did 00 if I had a very
large spreadsheet, but once it was loaded I could zip around very
quickly from page to page.

With 07, once it's loaded it can stall forever going from page to page
or even cell to cell. And to close it out takes forever as well.
Sometimes it will just close out in stages. Normally you might think
this is due to not enough ram, but I've got a gig of ram in my laptop
and I do diagnostic checks several times a week. It was never a
problem with 00.

Am I the only one experiencing this or is this a system wide problem?

In a post, yesterday, in this newsgroup, Dave Giesbrecht offered this...
'---start quote
"I suddenly ran into the same problem with a fairly basic workbook, where it was taking 20 to 30 seconds for my spreadsheet to
update with even the simplest of changes. Often, I would receive a "not responding" message. After spending far too much time
searching the web for a solution and troubleshooting my workbook, I found the problem.

I removed the "freeze panes" option on my 6 worksheets. Instant speed and no more of the "not responding" messages. I'm certainly no
expert, but it seems to me that this problem could be related to the expanded row and column capability in Excel 2007. If this is
the case, quite the gaffe by Microsoft...makes the freeze pane option unusable. I have kept up to date with Office updates, and
tried removing them one at a time, but it didn't help. Hope this works for others, and that MS picks up on this soon."
'---end quote

Excel 2007 has lots of problems. I have not "upgraded" and have no plans to do so.

Ten of the pages on my workbook used freeze panes. I undid them all
and things seemed to pick up quite a bit.

Does Microsoft plan on fixing this or am I just out of luck?

I have no idea.
It would nice if they just renamed XL2003 to XL2007 SP2 and released it.
