I'm cutting and pasting text into cells for a museum collection register (course assignment). Most of the time it works, but some of the cells show a string of # characters after I hit Enter.

I'm already up too late. Can anyone help me quickly?

OK, I punted and used multiple cells for vertical alignment.

I guess I won't be using Excel for any useful work any time soon.

Thanks to everyone for their enlightening answers, and goodbye.

Thanks to everyone for their enlightening answers, and goodbye.

While I can understand your frustration, given that almost everyone here
is a fellow user and volunteer, it's sadly the case that some questions
go unanswered (or the answer is a long time coming).

GIven your problem statement and followup, I for one couldn't replicate
your situation, especially since you indicated the problem was
intermittent (which is *very* difficult to troubleshoot), and that you'd
tried the obvious things.

Still don't have a suggestion for that problem, but don't be discouraged
from trying again if you have a different problem.
