Why is autoresponse in plain text instead of HTML?

Hi,

I created an autoresponder in Outlook 2002/XP using the Rules Wizzard.
The autoresponder works fine except for one thing.

I created an autoresponse email message in HTML and saved it as *.oft
When this message is sent as a response (and received) it is no longer
in HTML but in plain text.

How can I have it sent (and received) as HTML as intended?
Or are there (security/compatibility/...) reasons to prefer plain text?

(I'm using Win2K, Office 2002/XP SMB)

Thx for responding.

Yes, receiving account can receive HTML correctly.
I moved initial incoming message to a folder and checked it there.

Odd is, the outgoing response message in HTML is sent as plain tekst !
(or maybe RTF-text). It appeared to contain keywords like 'HYPERLINK'
and 'mailto:' but it is definately no HTML source code.

THIS is really weird !!!
The outgoing response message in (Sent Items), right click 'From:' field
then 'Properties' revealed 'Send as outlook-RTF format' while Outlook
is set up for HTML formated mail (Tools - Options - Email format).

Somehow autoresponse messages fall back to RTF while standard mail
uses HTML as configured (bug?).

Do I have to add my accounts to the addressbook and force Outlook to
'Have Outlook determine the best format' when sending ?



I'm puzzled, any suggestions ?

Do all autoresponses do this or just those to particular people? If the
Contact entry for the original sender specifies Rich Text, that will
override your HTML setting. Open the sender's Contacts entry and
double-click the mail address. At the bottom, see if the drop-down says
"rich text only".

For test purposes I used one of my other accounts (e.g. (e-mail address removed))
to send a message to my business account (e.g. (e-mail address removed))

For NONE of my own accounts there is a Contacts entry of course.

For known contacts Outlook XP is set to "Let Outlook detemine the best
format"
when sending.

For unknown contacts there is no contact card so I assume Outlook follows
my common setup: HTML.

Just for debugging I created a contact card for e.g. (e-mail address removed)
and had Outlook determine the best format when sending.
It made no difference, autoresponse mail (originally in HTML) are being
sent in plain text (or ?).

My autoresponse mail in Sent Items has my business account e.g.
(e-mail address removed), as sender (correct). But right clicking this field
shows that Outlook uses RTF when sending. I never made no such setting.

At least you are lucky !!!

I have fiddled with Word's Web options and Email options
but cannot recall the default settings anymore.

Could you tell me yours please, see:
Word - Tools - Options - tab General - button [Web Options]
- Target Browser
- Options right below

and

Next to button [Web Options], click button [E-mail Options]
- tab General, section HTML Options.
