I am having the same problem. The image is enlarged when I inserted it into the Word document via Insert -> Picture -> From File.... I am using Office 2003 Professional on XP professional. The image is originally scanned from a scanner and I could not control much but the dpi. But I tried all dpi's; the result is the same. Then I switched to use the screen capture software to capture particular part of the image. I have the same result. The funny thing is that Word won't enlarge the image if I capture the screen on another document as long as the image is from the scanner. Is there any setting set in Word that causes this? All images are in JPG format.

If you have Photoshop you need to also set the Image> Image Size> Document
Size> Height & Width in inches or cm. Keep the check in place for Resample
Image to retain the same resolution. [BTW - If you intend it to print well
I'd recommend much higher resolution... at least 150 ppi] If you set the
Document Size as well as the res in Photoshop then use the Insert command
rather than pasting you should be OK

why is image enlarging on insert (or paste)
I am having trouble with Word enlarging images that I am inserting. I have
tried pasting the image in also, but it is always enlarges about 30%. I can
use the handle to resize afterwards, but this is time consuming and there is
no exact way for me to tell when it is at 100% of original size.
Re: why is image enlarging on insert (or paste)
Hi Angela
Which version of Word are you using? What is your frame of reference for th
dimensions you think the image "should" be?... 30% larger than what? Wha
file type are the "images" & what is their source
Essentially, Word doesn't alter anything about an image when you use th
Insert> Picture> From File method. If the image is sized to print as 3"x5
that's what it is inserted as. There may be some slight variation dependin
on the image file type but certainly not 30%
If you copy/paste it may result in a different size than what it displaye
as in the source, but that's because of the internal coding of the imag
over which you - nor Word - has any control

I hae noticed this problem in all Office 2007 products - but it i
particularly causing my grief in Word and Outlook (when creating signature
with images). Intuitively, it appears to have something to do with dp
because the image has poor resolution from being enlarged upon insert. Th
image is a .jpg that I created in Photoshop at 72 dpi. I suspect that whe
inserted/pasted into Word, that the dpi is 96, but I can't find anything t
confirm this, or anything to make it NOT happen.
