Sorry for the dumb question but it is very annoying. I know it is user
problem but I can't figure out what I am doing wrong?

Probably because you have the Normal style set to automatically update.
Format | Style, the style you are using (probably Normal) should be
highlighted in left column, click Modify, uncheck "automatically update", do
check "add to template", OK out of dialogs.

See here for a fuller explanation of why:

(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

Is this Word 2004? I think someone messed up and borrowed us trouble from
WinWord, that issue didn't use to show up here.

Hi.

Please do two things for us?

Please tell us your operating system and version of Office (see my little
blue signature block at the bottom).

Then please be more specific about what you are doing to make this problem
occur.

Try to realize we cannot see what you are talking about.

Thanks.

Best,

- Bill

My apologies I am using Office 2004 on Panther 10.3.8

BTW the reason this was occurring was my normal style was set to
automatically update. Once deselected my formatting issue was fixed.

Thanks

Just figured out what he was talking about, thanks to your answer. I should
have been able to figure that out I guess.

I wouldn't be able to figure it out if I didn't see 5-10 posts/day
describing this problem in every conceivable way on the general Word groups.
