Why is it taking office 2007 so long to open??

I have XP with SP3, just installed Office Home and Student 2007 from CD,
retail version. When I try to open WORD , the window pops open that says
office 2007, then it sits there for 4 to 5 minutes before opening. Why is it
taking forever to open? The other programs in the suite open right away. HELP
and be specific please. Detailed instructions on how to correct this. I ran
the diagnostics and it says everything installed properly. Thanks

Hey there,

Try searching and deleting all normal.dot files on your c: drive. I've had
this problem in the past and this fixed the issue for me on a few
computers...

Hi, thanks for your reply. I searched all .doc files and it's not just my
documents, it's also program files. So what exactly did you mean by normal
..doc files? It is also freezing up once it does open and I try to do
anything. It's impossible to use. If I try to pull up one of my word
documents ,it will eventually pop up, but it takes forever. My computer came
with a trial version of office 2003 on it. Should I remove all of that?? I've
even uninstalled 2007 and reinstalled, it didn't help.

Sorry, I meant .dot files instead of .doc. the 2003 version was just a trial
version and never activated. Please help. I can't even use 2007

Uninstall the trial version, delete temp files, reboot, insert 2007 cd and
follow instructions to repair/reinstall
How much free space & memory is on your PC?
Do you have an anti virus application that has intergrated itself with
Office?

Thank you for your response. you got it right! I called tech support, which
you get free for 90 days. I use to have Norton anti-virus on my computer, but
uninstalled it and now use a different brand of anti-virus and spyware..
However, there was still a Norton file left on my computer that kept trying
to scan Word every time it tried to open. Once we deleted this file ,
everything seems to be working fine. There seems to be a lot of people out
there that is having the same problem If anyone needs the CService # it's
1-800-642-7676. Once they determine that you can qualify for free tech
support they will transfer you. Took about 5 minutes and it was fixed! thanks
