Why is my office xp "hanging" or freezing up for 10-60 seconds wh.

Office xp programs freeze for up to 1 minute or longer when opening or saving
files. I have drives mapped over a VPN. But that doesn't seem to be the cause.

Look in My Computer for mapped network drives that are not available, and
disconnect them.
