Why is my printer not responding to print a word document

MY PRINTER RETEATEDLY GOES FROM PRINTIN G WORD DOC.

AND THEN STATES "PRINTER NOT RESPONDING" ... WHEN I COMMAND

IT TO PRINT. WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO CORRECTING THIS AND NOT

HAVE THIS HAPPEN AGAIN.

NOTE - COMPUTER, HARD DIVE AND PRINTER ARE NEW IN 2009
