Why is my thesaurus suddenly running REALLY slow?

For no apparent reason the thesaurus in my Word 2003 is running so slow that
it takes almost 5 mins to prompt a selection of words. When I try to get out
of selecting the thesaurus and click it again, the words NOT RESPONDING
appears on the top of my screen. I have tried running spyware etc and my
machine is clean and free from nasties.

Please can someone help me as I'm lost without my choice of words that
thesaurus brings.
