As suggested to the other poster, please check your graphics and printer
driver, as well as whether you have the Outlook Performance Update
installed or not. The kind of behavior you are describing is not what it
should be like.
I am using Office 2007 under Vista on a tablet PC that is technically
not Vista ready (I don't get the Aero graphics stuff), but the response
time is as it should be (I am typing this reply in Outlook and each
letter appears as I hit it on the keyboard immediately).

Sad,
Like yourself, I too am a poweruser of the entore office suite. I spend most
of the day between outlook, groove, excel, word and visio. From my
experience, the largest performance are by far in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Coincidentally, these are the only three that have the nifty new "on the
fly" formatting features for rapid manipulation of large amounts of text. It
drove me nuts for awhile when I'd look at outlook, only to find I'm half a
sentence ahead of the program. It seems to "hang" for about two seconds and
then rapidly catch up.
One one computer, I'm running Office 2007 & Office 2003 on Xp with 2GB of
RAM. On the newer computer, I'm running Office 2007 on Vista with 2 GB of
RAM.... and this happens on both. Although, i will say that increasing my
laptop memorgy to two GB last week helped significantly.
I agree that MS shouldn't be creating software with such huge memory hogging
limitations, but that doesn't change the fact that they do... I would suggest
the memory upgrade. I had this scenario on all three of my engineers company
laptops and so I had to upgrage each of them to 2Gb. That was the only fix
that really increased the performance back to normal levels.
If you are having trouble with outlook, one thing that will help is
composing in TEXT mode, not HTML mode. That's what seemed to be hanging up
outlook in mid-composition for me. Changing to text mode corrected the issue
for me.
Good luck!
I have been using Vista Ultimate (and before that the beta through RC releases of Vista and Office 2007). Two weeks ago, EVERY OFFICE application has an agonizingly slow keyboard response. The lag between typing and the character appeatring on the screnn can be measured in seconds. In a minute it is lagging 30-40 characters behind by typing speed. I have uninstalled office and reinstalled on a completely different drive. I have all of the office updates including the performance update for Outlook referred to in this thread. Every office application is unuseable. It is virtually impossible to type anything or answer e-mail. No other applications (including Explorer which is what I am typing into now and Notepad) have the problem. I did install a brand new video card around the time that I experienced the first slowness but how would the video affect typing/character generation speed? Why only in Office. In case you ask, I have changed out the keybpard aas well.
