Why is office update is unable to check for updates?

Have got the same problem. checking stops at 40% and then a page with
possible reasons comes up. None of these applies.
I wonder why no MVP Guy specialized on MS Office is around in this
news group.

I am also having the exact same problem. I did a search
for the *.msp files the error page says may be missing,
and I couldn't find them, though I have never deleted
them. I downloaded and successfully installed SP3
manually, but that still doesn't allow me to run the
update program.

I sure wish someone knew where to find a solution to this
problem.

Anyone?

Thanks P.Lanz and JP... its good to know I'm not the only one.

When I try to use the Office Update... after 40%, I get a new iewindow
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-ca/FX010404541033.aspx ) called Office Update
is unable to check for updates.

My computer doesn't hang-up or anything.

I'm running on windowsxp but I'm not sure what version of Office I'm using
(how do I find out?), plus I have powerpoint, frontpage, and publisher.

Could this inability have something to do with the last two programs
installed? Maybe they were upgrades to windows isntaller version 1.1. How
do I find out what installer version I have? Can I just deinstall it and
somewhere, download, and reinstall?

I followed all the directions at
http://communities2.microsoft.com/c...-71bf1284a66c&dglist=&ptlist=&exp=&sloc=en-us
by torgeir...

And it still doesn't work... goes to 40%, then new window saying unable to.

Any advice, anyone??
