Anyone have a clue what to do about this? Office Professional Edition 2003,
service pack 2 installed, Symantec Corporate AV installed, email is not being
checked, pop3 account and an exchange account exit

You should realy ask this in an Outlook group for a better answer. This
group suports OneNote, another product in the Office family.

Sometimes Outlook add-in programs don't close cleanly for whatever reason
and prevent Outlook from full exiting. You can kill an instances of
Outlook.exe from Task Manager (Processes Tab) or use a utility like
KnockOut:

This sounds very familiar - at the time I was running Office XP Professional
and wasn't able to download my email. My ISP reported that an update from
Symantec was probably the cause.
