Why is Outlook so slow?

Outlook XP is always slow to start, no matter whether I'm at work or at home.
Why does it take so long to get rolling, and are there any settings that I
can change to correct this? I use dial-up at home and a fast LAN at work;
doesn't make much of a difference.
