why is outlook telling me I need an msn subscribtion to continue

Over the weekend Outlook stopped transfering emails on both of my computers.
Error message suggest I need an MSN subscribtion to continue using. Is this
the case? How do I fix

Are you using Hotmail?

If it's hotmail, you can't use outlook any more. Either use the web site, or

If you're using a free Hotmail account, MSN is disabling (and has been since
September of 2004) the ability to use Hotmail from Outlook or Outlook
Express.
