Why is PPT embedding my film clips?

I'm making a PowerPoint 2000 presentation in which several slides have
hyperlinks to .wmv film clips. The film clips have varying lenghths, and of
course typical film clip sizes of 5, 8, 12 Mb, etc. The slides are perfectly
straightforward, with nothing special on them. There are about 40 slides.

The PPT file has 30 Megabytes.

No way that comes from the contents of the slides. There's only one
conceivable explanation: somehow, some way, the film clips must be getting
embedded in the slides. I simply can't explain it any other way.

Yet it *seems* to me that I'm just making hyperlinks. I put a little image
on the slide, then click on "Action Settings", and simply make "Hyperlink To
...." the film clip file. Doesn't that just put a hyperlink in the file,
instead of embedding the whole clip?

Anybody have ideas about where I could look/check more closely to see what
is actually happening?

Thanks,

John
