Why is printed background much smaller than the view of document?

I added a picture as background for a Word doc. The view shows the picture
as the full page background. When I printed the page, the background
included many SMALL pictures of the background pictures. I only want the
background being one picture, not multiple. Any idea that I can do it?

In order to receive a plausible explanation and/or suggestions on how to
correct the problem you need to provide more detailed & accurate
information, such as:

What version of Word,
Specs of the image you used as a "background",
Exactly *how* you created what you're referring to as a "backgrlound".
