why is sound icon showing off in my browser bar when it's turned u

I turned the sound up with the sliding bar but the icon always shows it is
off. How can I correct that?

Not an Outlook question and no information to answer. Post this in your
operating system forum. Look up Volume in Help to turn on sound in Control
Panel. Make sure your Mute button on the keyboard is not active.
