Why is spellcheck not working in previously opened document?

A friend emailed me a document which she had spell checked, but I found
obvious mistakes, and Word is saying the spellcheck is complete.

I understand spell check but this is a new Word 2007 feature. I have
produced a document for my students to use, but once I have spell checked it
and "Ignored" mistakes, the spell checker on any pc no longer picks up these
mistakes, when this doc is opened on other machines, ie students machines.

Thank you for your help but I don't think I've explained the problem very
well. I want a student to open this document as if it has never been
checked. I want red lines to appear, but if somebody spell checks it and
ignores the suggestions, that's it. It's checked forever! No matter who
then opens the document, they have to live with all the ignored spelling
mistakes. Red lines don't appear again, even when opened by a different
person on a different machine. Somehow Word 2007 is attaching this checked
information to the document. My students are beginners and don't know about
Recheck buttons, they are just starting to learn about Spell Check.

But to answer your question, no there is no recheck button.

It sounds to me as if "Check spelling as you type" is not enabled on the
student's machine.
