Why is the chapter number disappearing when I print?

I'm using a template that someone else set up with automatic numbering. This
document contains attachments that are numbered as "Attachment A,"
"Attachment B," etc., using autonumbering in the Heading 1 style. The
numbering looks fine but when I print the document (or select "Print
Preview"), the attachment number disappears. The rest of the numbering
(subheads, page numbers, figure numbers, etc.) in the document is OK. Can
anyone give me a clue why the number disappears in Heading 1 when the
document is printed?

Are you sure it's all of Heading 1? Sounds like they manually edited the
field to include the Attachment number, instead of placing the attachment
number outside the field. When you print, your fields are automatically
updated. You may need to turn that off (Tools-->Options-->Print tab) and
then print. I'm not sure without seeing the document.
