Why is the Office Update Installation Engine not verified?

A

Ann

In Internet Properties under the Programs tab, Manage Add-Ons, you will find
the Office Update Installation Engine listed as an Add-On used by IE (That is
if you have installed it from Office Update). In parenthesis are the words
(Not verified) Microsoft Corporation. Why is the ActiveX Control opuc.dll
NOT Verified?
I am running WindowsXP Pro.
Thank You

I know it might be way too late for the original poster but perhaps
other people might find this useful.
I've had the same problem with XP Pro and MS Office 2003. It wouldn't
do all the updates because of the opuc.dll.

Solution:

1. Open Internet Explorer and under Add-Ons disable 'Microsoft Office
Update Engline' with opuc.dll listed there.

2. Restart Internet Explorer and go to the Add-Ons again and this time
'Delete' the one with opuc.dll.

3. Go to C:\Windows\ directory and verify that opuc.dll is not there

4. go to Microsoft Office Update Website and run the updates again. It
will ask to install ActiveX control and when you agree, you will have a
new opuc.dll installed.

It will still say it's not verified but you can do updates now.
