Why is this so hard? I have my data (.mdf and .ldf) from prev inst

Hi,

This is not meant as disrespect toward anybody who really gets into the
details of programming; but, I am a little bit upset that the hardest part of
restoring a failed system is the contact database.

I moved up to BCM from ACT! because I think (generally) that MS has a better
handle on applications.

I recently had my system trashed when I ran Diskeeper's Boot-Time Defrag
with chkdsk enabled. And then I discovered that the most recent backups had
been corrupted. (There are a lot of lessons learned from both those events.)

I have perfectly good copies of my .mdf and .ldf files that I would like
start using again. I know there are reasons for not being able to just copy
and paste these files into the appropriate locations; but, I would still like
to believe there is a way to do this.

I have generated a new database from within BCM and then stopped Outlook,
then the SQL service, then renamed those files to something different, then
renamed the "good" .mdf and .ldf files to the name of the new database, then
copied those files to the correct location, then restarted the SQL service,
and finally restarted Outlook. BCM could not connect to the database because
of access issues.

I have downloaded, installed, and tried to muddle my way through Microsoft
SQL Server Management Studio Express.

I have tried a routine that should restore the database.

I don't have time to become a database expert... I merely want to use my
database data. (I never had to learn programming to move data between other
MS applications, and although I don't mind doing a little extra work, I do
get frustrated when I can't understand what I am trying to do... and even
moreso when I can't find anyone to help with a simple explanation.

Is there anyone that can help me with this? I would really like to get my
data back.

Thanks

Jeff
