Why is Visio trying to access my floppy drive when it starts up?

Warren Massey

I have Visio 2000 SR1 (6.0.2072) and lately it has taken to trying to access
my floppy drive (A:) when the program starts up.
If there is no disk in the drive this can delay the program startup process
quite a while.

I don't have any files listed among the 4 most-recently-used files that are
on A: and I don't see any file paths under the Options setup that include A:
in their path.

Does anyone have any ideas how I might stop this behavior or troubleshoot
what's causing it?

Thanks!

Hi Warren,

I remember this exact same issue when I was running Visio 2000....

Never did find a solution to it until I rebuilt my system and installed
Visio 2002 from Visual Studio....

And to be honest with you.... as I think back to it....that had become such
an issue, I realize I stopped using Visio for a long time.

Now I barely use Visio any more, because the damn program is chock full of
way too many bugs to be useful. I think I've come to the conclusion that
Microsoft really broke that product when bought it. And now it isnt even
good for what 2000 was best at... Network Diagramming (what happened to all
the built-in Auto discovery tools and network icons!!!!)

Hi Warren,

I remember this exact same issue when I was running Visio 2000....

Never did find a solution to it until I rebuilt my system and installed
Visio 2002 Enterprise from Visual Studio, which I am still having issues
with....

And to be honest with you.... as I think back to it....that had become such
an issue, I realize I stopped using Visio for a long time, and is the
primary reason I let my skill sets dwindle on that product, and have stopped
using except when absolutely necessary.

Now I barely use Visio any more, because the damn program is chock full of
way too many bugs to be useful. I think I've come to the conclusion that
Microsoft really broke that product when bought it. And now it isnt even
good for what 2000 was best at... Network Diagramming (like what happened to
all the built-in Auto discovery tools and network icons!!!!)

Keep up the Good Work Microsoft.... and you'll be but a distant memory on
the corporate desktop before the end of the decade.
