Why is Word 3.0 defaulting to opening all files in notepad format

For several weeks, MS Word 3.0 has been opening all Word documents in notepad
format, which means I have to save the file to desktop, launch MS Word and
then open the document using the "open" command. Very time consuming...

Anyone know how to resolve this issue?

is very unlikely that you are using Word 3.0 unless it is a DOS version and
incredibly old. The Windows version of Word skipped from Word 2.0 to 6.0 (in
the early 1990s). Perhaps you're referring to Word 2003?

Due to a recent security update from Microsoft some of the backward
compatibility has been turned off. You can turn it back on using a Reg-Hack.
