Why is Word in Office 2000 is getting an error report from MS and.

I have Office 2000 Premium and all of a sudden Word gets an error report and
must close - something about needing to upgrade - is that how they are going

Seriously, "something about needing to upgrade" isn't helpful in fixing your
problem. What is the exact wording of the message?

I think you'll find that Microsoft is telling you that Office 2000's
"mainstream support" phase ended two years ago, and that "extended support"
(essentially, security fixes only) will end in another three years
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;lifeOffice#Office).

Neither of these things has any direct bearing on the cause of the error
message. For troubleshooting steps, see
