Why isn't installation of the Project Workspace template part of the Installatiion ?

I've been through all the Single Computer Installation Guide and installed
erverything (except Analysis Services) in the order suggested.

I've then also checked the Post Installation tasks.

What surprises me is that when I then go to the WSS site that I installed in
all this no template has been specified for the site.

The Project Workspace template is listed as one of the alternatives so
that's not the problem, what is is the question as to why didn't the
installation guide tell me to access this site and specifiy this template as
part of the Project Server 2003 installation ?

I did after all install Windows SharePoint Services so why wasn't this part
of the procedure ever completed (say at the end once I had also installed
Project Server 2003) in the Installation Guide.

Aside: I assume the Project Workspace template *is* the one I should be
using ?

Mika:

The Project Workspace template is installed when you run WSSWIZ on the
freshly installed WSS site. WSSWIZ adds all the Project custom stuff. The
Project Workspace template is not part of the standard WSS install, so it
seems as though you executed the installation correctly. Does this help
clarify things? I'm not 100% certain that I'm addressing your question.

After you run the installation, you do need to select the template by
completing the WSS setup through SharePoint Central administration.

Thanks Gary,

After the installation I did go to the Web site (in fact just by doing
http://ProjServer) and was at the "select a template" page.

What I was really saying was "why wasn't this step in the Installation
Guide?" - everything else was, so why miss this out ?

With the standard team site template being the default (and Project
Workspace at the bottom of the list) I can imagine lots of people choosing
the wrong template to apply.
