why my Microsoft word dont work

i cant use any of my Microsoft, such as Word Execel, what can i do to get it
to work when i click on any of them it says, this app must be install to run,
i installed office97 it does nothing at allHELP me Please

Did you install Office 97 from the original CD, or did you copy the
files to your hard drive from another computer or hard drive?
