Why no Outlook in Vista Home

This may sound as stupid to you all but since I changed to cable broadband
and was given Virgin WEBMAIL....my emails have all suddenly jammed. Their
answer (believe it or not) is please use Outlook ? Now Im sure most of you
Vista Home Premium users know that we do not have Outlook as part of the
package...why I have never found out. They offer windows mail which I cannot
get to work...so...does anyone know how I can get Outlook free as a download
please.

Legally, you can't. It's a pay for piece of software. It doesn't come with
the Operating System because it isn't part of the Operating System. Its
part of Office.

That said, Windows Mail and Outlook both work with a POP3 and SMTP server
the same, so, the likely cause of a problem is if you need to authenticate
with the outgoing server when sending mail (or log into POP3 first).

Search the website for whoever is running the mailserver you're trying to
use for the steps to set up using Outlook Express, which should be almost
exactly the same as Windows Mail.

No Office software is included in any win version.
Virgin probably meant Outlook Express, since they dont provide support for
Outlook - at least not the last time I looked.
Vista comes with Windows Mail - the new version of Outlook Express -
Post to the Vista.Mail group if you dont know how to set it up, but provided
you have your virgin mail settings, starting Mail should lead you through
the setup

Microsoft Outlook is part of Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office is not part
of the operating system which is why you don't have it. It's not a free suite
so you would have to purchase it.

If you prefer to use Windows Mail since you already have it, post in the
Windows mail newsgroup for assistance. However you will need to check your
ISP website for servernames, etc. They should have all the information you
need in order to set up a mail account.
