I believe this is a sustained problem. Just wonder why
nobody wants to touch it even though it's posted several
times. Any one could give me an advice, even only a
direction where I can go to find out relevant
information, will be highly appreciated. thx.

Subject: Error 1706 - An old problem but no solution
exactly match the following ...

I installed MS Office 2000 Premium in Administrator's
account (you have to, otherwise setup won't work) and
upgraded to SR-1a. My machine has multiple users. If
anyone, except Administrator, tries to run any program in
Office, the Office setup program will be initiated and
get the following message no matter if the Office CD is
in the CD drive or not.

Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product
Micosoft Office 2000 SR-1 Premium. The Windows installer
cannot continue.

This problem occurs in both Windows 2000 or Windows XP no
matter which one you use. The program initiated can
finally be opened but some futures won't work and some
functions behavior abnormally, especially for FrontPage.

There're tons of papers in the Knowledge Base but no one
exactly match my case and no one can solve the problem.

Thanks for any help.

I run Office 2000 Professional and have I have the same
problem.

In my opinion, this is simply another problem that
Microsoft refuses to address in an effort to force
customers to upgrade to the overly expensive Office XP
products. I think we will have to live with this problem
or give in to the greed of Microsoft and Bill Gates. I
have tried many ways to resolve the problem with no
success. Microsoft refuses to help, unless I pay $35 an
hour and it may take 2-4 hours to fix the problem. No
way.

I presently run XP, Office 2000, Office XP and Office XP
Small Business. I need the Office Pro 2000 for the
programs Bill Gates and Microsoft in their greed left out
of Office XP and Office XP Small Business. My other
users and I would rather not see this error message but
will live with it. Unless of course Microsoft
gets "Soft" as in the name or maybe they should change
the name to MicroHard to reflect its stance on problems
its software causes.

I think the next time I buy a compute it will come with
Linux installed and I can say goodby to Microsoft's
refusal to help its customers.

I think if enough people start voicing their displeasure
with Microsoft by moving to Linux, they may wise up and
give us help for problems their software creates.

Nice comments. Thanks. OK, live with it. So, anyone wants
to run Office in full function has to switch to the Admin
account.
