Why "Not Enough Memory"?

D

Don Brown

I recently switched from Mac OS 9.2.2 to OS X 10.1.5 and thereafter switched
from Excel 98 to Excel 2001. After having problems using OSX I returned to
OS 9.2.2, but, using Excel 98 again, I am now unable to open two 500K Excel
documents. Each time I try to do so, I get flagged for "Not Enough Memory",
even though I have alloted 1,000,000 K for Excel 98 memory in the Get Info -
Memory - Preferred Memory Box, and even though every other Excel document in
my archives, including those over 500K, opens easily. It is crucial for me
to get these 2 documents open, but I cannot get past the "Not Enough Memory"
sign, even though the memory issue seems totally misplaced and inapplicable.
Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions??? Thanks, Don B

This is caused by a bug in Excel v.X that was fixed in Service
Release 1 (which is now incorporated in update 10.1.2).

If you have access to a windows machine, opening and doing a save as
from WinXL97/01/02/03 should cure the problem, as will doing a
saveAs from the updated XLv.X.
