Why shouldn't checkbox labels occur in back of checkboxes?

By default, checkbox labels occur in front of checkboxes.
However, textbox labels (by default) occur in back of textboxes.
Why shouldn't checkbox labels occur in back of checkboxes?

I always thought that labels occur besides the textboxes and checkboxes? To
me it's not clear what you mean. Try to describe what the action is you take
when you select a checkbox so we can see what it is that causes this...

esharris,

Someone might have accidently changed that. Make sure you have the
properties window open (so best to do this while in design mode of some
form)... Once the ToolBox is visible right might click on the check box and
look in the Properties window there you can 'fix' that.

Thanks for the information.

Maurice, it's true that the label is always beside the control. However, it
is sometimes on the right side and sometimes on the left side. Forgive me for
leaving out the necessary details. I tried this in Access 2003 and 2007. If I
move a checkbox from the toolbox to an empty form, I see a check box with a
following label. If move a text box to the form, I see a label and a
following text box.
Gina, I don't think someone changed my default settings, because I am
working on my personal computer. However, when I right-click the checkbox in
the toolbox, I don't see a preference menu item. When I right-click a
checkbox on the form, I can select the properties item, but I don't know
which option determines the orientation of the label. And changing the
properties for this particular checkbox would not change the default settings.

Why does Access lead the naive user to put a check box labels AFTER the
checkbox?

Go into design mode of a form...
Open the Properties Window...
On the Toolbox right mouse click on top of the Check Box and...
You will see that the Properties Window has changed showing the Properties
for the Check Box..

You can actually change all the properites for each control in the Toolbox
by doing that. It could have been an accidental change where you
right-mouse clicked and didn't realize you were changing those properties.

esharris,

What I am giving you instructions for will allow you to adjust the label on
the check box. And it will change the default for all your checkboxes going
forward. For instance, I don't use the colon, so I removed it from all my
labels and now no matter when I create a control, my labels have no check
boxes.

I should note, that I don't follow have those 'guidelines'. I have created
a Master form layout which conforms to my guidelines. So when I want to
create a form I select mine and get the form layout and color I prefer to
use.
