Why some versions of Word 2003 wouldn't delete ~TMP files??

Hi,

I am facing this problem on Windows XP machines with Microsoft Word 2003.
Intermittently when we save a document word does not seem to delete the ~TMP
files created for that particular file, which means word crashes out saying
do you want to recover your document.
I believe since this ~TMP file is not deleted it is locking the original
file, which when saved crashes out.
Is there a particular reason or any patch available to tackle this issue?
Thanks in Advance

The lock files are named
~$filename.doc/t

If they are not handled correctly it usually points to a permissions
problem, however some add-ins will inhibit normal file handling behaviour
(the first Acrobat 7 add-in for example). The more likely problem is that
following a crash a raft of temporary files have been left behind and
ignored - see http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm

Thanks for the info.
I have 3 questions:
1. Is there any log file, where I can see why word cashed out?
2. Is there a way to completely Disable the Auto Recover Functionality?(
which means word will never be able to throw crsahing error to the user)
3. Why this happens only in some versions of Word 2003, is there a patch
which can fix this, or does this happen because of some other programs
installed(I have checked for the Adobe Add in, its not present).

Thanks in Advance

You can get some information from the Windows Application Events viewer
If you turn off Tools > Options > Save > Save Autorecovery Information, the
recovery should stop, but it will not prevent crashes or the problems
associated with them - and users may not appreciate losing the ability to
recover data.
The usual problems that cause Word to crash are those of outside influence -
especially corruption in the normal template and add-ins rather than the
core application. I trust you are not trying to share the normal template?
:(

Take a look at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm.

Thanks once again,
Actually after doing some further investigation, I found that sometimes when
I save the document , I can see in the temp folder, word creates a ".cvr"
file.
Whenever this .cvr file is created word will crash out.
Can someone throw some light on whats .cvr file and why word is creating it?
Is this something to do with Symantech???

Thanks in Advance

I do not have Winfax installed, but I can see Winfax.dll in Windows/System32
folder. I tried deleting the Winfax.dll file, but everytime I lauch word this
fle(Winfax.dll) seems to get created in Windows/System32 folder.
I dont know why its doing that???
