Why still asking to save normal?

Did I not read that this thing about asking to save normal was taken care of
with Office 2004? I still see it on reboots.
Thanks.

You didn't read it, Kevs, because it's the same in Word 2004. Probably
because some people (me, for example) prefer to be asked since it may well
alert you to something being changed that would otherwise go undetected; or
it presents an opportunity to cancel something I've botched.

Word menu -> Preferences -> "Save" button -> Prompt to save Normal template.

Well, the difference is that in Word X, if you had that pref on, you got
asked to save Normal every single time you quit, even the 97% of the time
when you hadn't changed anything nor had been invaded by a whatever. The
reason was that the checking for changes in contacts in the Office
(Entourage) Address Book modified the AutoText settings in Normal template,
every time, even if you hadn't changed anything in contacts either. Now it
doesn't. So you don't get asked so often.

Thanks again Paul.

Clive , I do have that unchecked. Yes still get the question after trying
to restart sometimes.

Honestly, I still don't understand it, really -- but as Paul points out --
it is less. It would be nice to have eliminated altogether.

Kevs,
I wonder if you are really talking about the "save changes to Normal"
prompt, which so far as I know, *only* ever shows up on quitting Word.
Restarting and rebooting should not have anything to do with it.

Also, if you have that option unchecked, there is no way you should get that
message. Exactly what message are you getting, and exactly when?

Apologies, Kevs -- I moved straight from Word 2001 to 2004, which I
sometimes overlook.
