Why the wrap problem?

B

Beth Rosengard

Hi kevs,

Did you reverse the URLs? It's the first one that shows the wrapping, not
the second.

Where is the original that you copied from? I'd like to experiment with the
"real" text, but in the URLs you posted, the text is within graphics.

In the meantime, experiment with pasting options. Try Paste Special on
Word's Edit menu.

Hi kevs,

I couldn't access the URL you sent me privately because I'm not a member of
that group. However, I am a member of a couple other Yahoo groups so I
looked for a post that had the quoting that was causing you trouble.

I found inconsistent results with the various paste options which suggests
that there's a bug (which I will report to MS). However, if you copy, paste
and then click on the clipboard icon that appears, you'll be given options
that *should* work. I found that "Match destination formatting" and "Keep
text only" fixed the wrapping problems for the most part. As I said, it
wasn't consistent, but try it.

Thanks Beth:
Bug: are you saying that things on the Yahoo group, copied, then don't
paste well into Word. That's a real trip. Wonder why?

I don't see a clipboard icon. Anywhere on the page. I usually hate that
icon, buy now when I want it, it's not anywhere to be found!

Hi kevs,

No, it wouldn't be just the Yahoo group. I suspect it would be the same
with any web forum that uses quoting, such as Google groups, for example.
The source of the text is irrelevant; it's the formatting of it that makes
the difference.

The bug is that the paste results aren't consistent. Sometimes you get what
you're supposed to get and sometimes you don't.

You probably turned it off in Preferences. It's called Show Paste Buttons
and it's on the Preferences> Edit pane.

Check it out Beth:
That preference is checked, and it working. For example if I paste text
from this page I get the paste option button.

But for the problem web text, the paste option button does not come on! So I
cannot test your solution!

I don't know what to tell you, kevs. It works for me.

Try this: Do a Paste Special as Unformatted Text. Do *not* try the other
Paste Special options; that's when things get messed up.

Thanks Beth:
Yes, just retried that from menu, does not work. So maybe we are at dead
end. Really strange thing Word can't handle this. Thanks.

Word *can* handle it. It does so for me. Either there's something munged
in your installation or you're not doing the same things I am. If you want
to lay out the steps you're taking, one by one, we might be able to get
somewhere.

Beth,
I selecting the text from Safari or Explorer (tried both)

Paste, command V into blank document of Word. Thanks it!

Now today, I got the clipboard. But I tried all three radio buttons and
none helped. Appreciate your help.

1. What does "Thanks it" mean?

2. What does "I got the clipboard" mean?

Honestly, it would really help everyone who is trying to help you if you'd
make your statements more comprehensible. Please make the effort to spell it
out carefully. Thanks.

Now this is scary :). I actually understood what kevs meant.

"Thanks it" should have been "that's it". And the "clipboard" is the
clipboard icon that gives you the various paste options.

What I don't understand is why the "destination formatting" and "unformatted
text" paste options aren't working for kevs when they work properly (under
most circumstances) for me. Any ideas?

Thanks Beth:
You interpreted my misspelling and bad grammar perfectly.

Sorry Paul, I keep thinking that Entourage is going to fix all bad spelling
and grammar for me.
