These lines are the page boundaries. You probably printed the sheet, and the
page breaks show. Go to the View preferences, and uncheck show page breaks
in the upper right part of the dialog.

Thanks Bob,
pretty bizarre. I unchecked page breaks and it sticks.
But... if I insert a new worksheet. it comes up in page view. I change it to standard view. and there they are again, and the view preference is now checked again!

The setting is worksheet-specific, not global or absolute. The first time
you switch to/from Page layout, Page Break Preview or Print Preview on a new
sheet the break lines will appear. If you then clear the check while viewing
that sheet they will not return unless you restore the check.

Thanks Bob, no way to get it Global, and if not, why not? seems strange.
I don't know if you mean me or Taz, but anyway.....

The determination of which parameters are global, and which are sheet (or
workbook) dependent, is the result of a lot of convoluted history. There is
no answer to "why not." Other to say that what seem completely obvious to
you is very likely to be completely unintuitive and unobvious to others.

So, just learn to live with the differences, they are not at all likely to
change. Ever.
