Why we need to Extend Project Server 2003

Hi,
i wanna know why it is needed to extend Project Server 2003 in
Sharepoint portal server 2003 ?? During its (Project Server)
installation..Whats the reason behind it ????

If you are referring to extending a virtual server, this is only done in
WSS (for both WSS or SPS). Extending a virtual server essentially
applies Windows SharePoint Services on the VS as it uses ASP.NET.

Project Server is not extended as it uses Active Server Pages.
