Why won't my images appear?

When I try to insert images into my work from clip-art or other sources, the
images does not always show. I have my document in print layout, picture
placeholders unchecked, drawing objects checked and my spacing is not set to
an exact value. The images do not show in print preview either? What can I
do? It's making work twice as hard!
