Why won't Outlook close as it is supposed to?

Kolohe Wiz

Whenever I close Outlook it remains running in the background (seen in task
manager) until I shut the system down. This just started happening and I also
can't receive email any longer. I've done a complete virus scan, adware scan
and spyware scan and there is nothing showing up in any of these. I have also
run detect & repair within Outlook. SInce I rely heavily on my email to
operate my business I need help ASAP.

TIA!

Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click
either the X or Exit:

1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support
for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Cover Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background
to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing
mail.

Could an AntiSpam program (McAfee Spam Killer v 2.9.14.0) also cause this
same issue? And if so, is there a quick fix or work around?

I have this exact problem and am pretty sure it's related to activesync. I
used to run activesync 3.7 and had this problem; it still persists in
activesync 4.1. I'm running outlook 2003. The support article deals only with
outlook 2000, is there a fix for 2003?

Make sure you uncradle your PDA before closing Outlook. The other way around
is also true; first start Outlook before cradling your PDA.
