Why won't Project Import/Export to/from Excel

R

rich

Hello,

I have a group of Project users who need to import/export to/from Excel
however, they all get "Operation Failed" errors. We think it may be because
of patch KB948962. Does anyone know anything about this?

TIA,

Rich

Hello Rich,

Have you tried changing the "Allow legacy file formats" on the
security tab in Tools > Options. I don't recall if this was in the
SP-3 push or the security fix you mention, but I believe project works
with earlier versions of Excel than 2003 when exporting. I am using
Project 2003 with SP-3 and when I turn off the option to allow
loading, I get a message saying I have to enable it.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie -

I'm getting the exact same problem, just a dialogue box with 'Operation
Failed' and nothing else. I've tried using an existing map and a new map but
it's all the same.

I don't appear to have the "Allow legacy file formats" option on the
security tab in Tools > Options.

Peace.

Hi Anthony,

Do you have SP-3 installed? Try installing that and enabling legacy
formats and see if that helps.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie -

No, we're on SP2. I'll talk to the system administrator and will get back to
you as and when it's installed.

Thanks for the prompt reply - it's much appreciated.

Peace,

Great, this solution worked for me as well.
In combination with the hint about saving to web page, then renaming to
xls, this now serves my purpose rather nicely.
