Why won't schedule allow schedule conflict/ show negative slack?

I am trying to update the schedule. auto calculate is on. I have multiple
small project schedules in an overall program schedule. each project has a
FNLT contstraint. as I try to update a task in a schedule, it says i have a
conflict and pulls the constraint. i want to keep the constraint and show
negative float and that i am behind schedule. it will not let me, how can I ?

nate,
Project will allow the conflict if you have the options set up properly
and you tell Project's scheduling wizard to allow conflicts. First, go
to Tools/Options/Schedule tab and make sure the option is set to show
scheduling messages. Then go to Tools/Options/General tab and make sure
you have the options set for the Planning Wizard. With those set, you
will get an alert any time you try to create a scheduling conflict. As
long as that conflict is not a circular relationship, which cannot be
allowed under any circumstances, Project will pop up a message with
multiple options.

Hope this helps.

IMHO, you're better off representing your deadlines with the Deadline field
instead of using a FNLT constraint. The Deadline calculates negative slacks
just like the constraint but it also shows you the finish date you are going
to hit unless you take action to fix the slippage. As you apply your fixes,
the date changes to show how successful they may have been. That way you
can make informed decisions and set your priorities if it turns out you just
don't have the resources to get everything done on time.
