I have downloaded office updates but will not install. I tried the suggested
fullfile method and still it did not work. I have plenty of space on my
harddrive. Any suggestions

Hi, smh,

Are you getting an error? What version of Office are you trying to patch?

Hi Susan,

I am running XP prof. and office 2003 prof.
The error message says: Installation Unsuccessful
The suggestions from the troubleshooter are:
(I tried all these and it did not work)
Install the required updates using the "Fullfile" version of updates.

The installation failure can likely be fixed by installing the "Fullfile"
version of updates, which do not require access to the product CD during
installation. The"Fullfile" version of an update contains extra information
and is therefore larger in size than the corresponding update on the Office
Update site.
For Office XP and Office 2003 products (Word 2002, Excel 2003, etc.), you
can find the "Fullfile" version of an update by following the More
Information link related to the update on the Office Update detection results
page. The link will take you to a page that allows you to download the
larger, "Fullfile" version of the update.

Fullfile Updates for Office 2000 products
Try installation again with a smaller number of updates.

Do you have enough disk space to install the selected updates?

The Office Update site downloads and installs patches using the hard disk
drive (or drive partition) where Windows is installed. This is usually the
"C:" drive. The amount of hard disk space required is approximately three
times the download size of the selected updates. Check to see if you have
sufficient disk space and free up additional space if necessary.

Thank you for your help.

Thanks. So you get the same error when you run the full file version of the
patch?

Try re-installing Office and running the patch again. Could be a small
corruption that can be repaired. If you get an error on the
re-installation, that might give us more clues. Did you install Office from
a CD yourself? Did you opt to remove the local installation source (LIS)
files after doing the installation?

smh

Susan,
I installed from a CD myself and no I did not opt to remove LIS files at the
end. I will try to reinstall. However it is odd that until now I have had
no problem with the updates. It seems that there are many others with the
same problem, did reinstalling help them?

Thank you,
Stacey
