Why WORD crashes when try to hit the 'File' menu button

T

Tien Ying

I had this problem with WORD 2000 and WORD 2002 on my
notebook computer. However, it does not seem to happen on
my other computers.

Any one has a suggestion on how to fix it ?

Thanks!!

Hi Tien,

It could be caused by a couple of things, but first check to see if
the error occurs when you start Word using the /a switch. Go to
Start/Run and run:

winword /a

Note the space before the forward slash.

If the error doesn't occur then go to Tools/Templates and Add-ins and
see if there are any add-ins in the list. If so they would be located
in your Word Startup folder or Office\Startup folder. The location of
the Word Startup folder can be obtained under Tools/Options/File
Locations and the Office\Startup folder is located in the installation
path.

Move each file you find out of the folder one at a time and see if the
error occurs until you find the offending add-in.

If that doesn't solve the problem then see if the error occurs when
you start Windows in Safe Mode. If it doesn't then it could be due to
a corrupt or incorrect graphics driver.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
