Why would I need the french grammer checker?

Thank you, Chris, for your response. The MS article was informative, but I
still do not understand why I have to have this update on my machine when I
have absolutely no reason or desire to have it! Is there a system
requirement?

The English language editions of MS Office 2003 products come
with the proofing tools for three languages common in North
America countries, English, French, Canada.

As the grammar tools are part of the Office 2003 product
the update is offered by the update checker
(http://officeupdate.com)
It's not mandatory to take it but it is part of keeping your
Office product 'whole' and up to date.
