why would PPT open in slide show mode?

Hi - when my co-worker opens the PPT I sent him, it opens in slide show.
When he hits 'Esc' the whole thing closes. We're running Vista. If he
right-clicks and opens with PPT, then it opens okay. Is there some type of
viewer it's opening in? How can we turn that off?
