Why would Word 2003 restart in the middle of typing?

Every time I type text into any Word document, the program shuts down and
autosaves the file.

Try selecting a different default printer in Start | Control
Panel | Printers and Faxes. If that fixes the problem, then
delete and reinstall the driver for your normal printer. While
you're at it, you might check the printer manufacturer's website
for an updated printer driver appropriate to your printer model
and operating system.
